On Android specifically, whether an alarm actually rings has less to do with which app you picked than with your phone's manufacturer — and that's true whether you're on Alarmy, Beyond Alarm, or anything else. Check this before blaming any app

Aggressive battery management is the single biggest cause of a missed alarm on Android, and it affects every app equally:

"Display over other apps" — why this one specifically matters

This permission is what lets a ring screen actually take over the display if you're mid-scroll in another app when the alarm fires. Without it, an alarm can fire and simply fail to interrupt whatever's already on screen. It's worth checking explicitly rather than assuming notifications alone cover it — they don't.

Exact alarms are a separate permission from notifications

Android 12 introduced a distinct "schedule exact alarms" permission, separate from notification access and separate from battery optimisation. An app can have notifications enabled and still fire late — or not at all — if this one is off, because without it the OS is free to batch or delay the alarm the way it batches ordinary background work. It's easy to assume "notifications are on" covers everything, and on Android specifically it doesn't; this is exactly the kind of single missing toggle a generic reliability checklist glosses over and a per-permission one catches.

Before you switch anything on Android

Test the new app's dismiss mechanism with the battery settings actually done, not before — an app that seems unreliable is very often a phone setting wearing the app's name. And check whether a camera-based mission can be beaten by a moving hand instead of a moving body before trusting "unfakeable" from any app's own marketing, this one included.

Why does my alarm app work on some Android phones and not others?

This is a phone setting, not a flaw in whichever alarm app you're using — every app on Android is equally exposed to it.

Does switching from Alarmy to another app fix "it doesn't ring" on Android?

Almost never on its own. Allow autostart and turn off battery optimisation for the new app too, or you'll hit the exact same problem in about a week.

What does "display over other apps" actually do for an Android alarm?

It's the permission that lets the ring screen draw itself over whatever else is on screen — without it, an alarm firing while you're using another app can fail to interrupt it. It has no iOS equivalent at all; Apple doesn't allow any third-party app to draw over another one.
