OPPO or realme alarm not going off? The ColorOS settings to fix
If your alarm doesn't go off on an OPPO or realme phone, the usual cause is that ColorOS or realme UI stopped the alarm app in the background. Turn on Allow auto launch and Allow background activity for it, set battery to Don't optimise, turn off Sleep standby optimisation, and lock the app in Recents. If it rings silently instead, check the alarm's sound file and the Alarm volume.
The short version:
- OPPO and realme are among the strictest phone makers about background apps.
- realme UI is built on ColorOS, so one guide covers both.
- An alarm app you set at night and don't open again is exactly what they stop.
- Several separate switches — fixing one doesn't fix the others.
Why OPPO and realme stop alarm apps
dontkillmyapp.com, which rates phone makers on how hard they stop background apps, lists OPPO and realme among the strict ones. The goal is battery life; the side effect is that a third-party alarm app looks like something you haven't touched since bedtime, so the phone closes it.
OPPO's own Clock app is a system app and is left alone. That's why "the built-in clock works fine" is so often said right before a third-party alarm fails — the phone treats the two very differently.
Every setting, and where it is
Menu names move between ColorOS 11, 12, 13, 14 and 15, and realme UI follows them closely. If a path doesn't match, search Settings for the bold word.
| # | Setting | What to set | Where |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | Allow auto launch | On | Long-press the app → App info → Battery usage |
| 2 | Allow background activity | On | App info → Battery usage |
| 3 | Battery optimisation | Don't optimise | Settings → Battery → More settings → Optimise battery use |
| 4 | Sleep standby optimisation | Off | Settings → Battery → More settings |
| 5 | Lock in Recents | Locked | Recent apps → the app's menu → Lock |
On older ColorOS versions, auto launch also appears in the Phone Manager app under privacy permissions, as Startup manager.
1 and 2. Auto launch and background activity
These two live together under App info → Battery usage. Allow auto launch lets the app start itself again after the phone closes it or restarts. Allow background activity lets it keep working while it's not on screen. An alarm app needs both. Some versions also show Allow foreground activity — leave that on.
This is the switch that matters most, and the one no app can check. Android has no public way for an app to read whether auto launch is allowed, so any app's "everything is fine" screen is guessing about it. More on why that is here.

3. Battery optimisation
The standard Android switch, which ColorOS keeps under its own name. Open Settings → Battery → More settings → Optimise battery use, find your alarm app and choose Don't optimise. It's separate from the two settings above; you need all three.
Beyond Alarm
Beyond Alarm does this part for you: the alarm will not switch off until you have actually moved, and the apps you pick stay locked afterwards.

4. Sleep standby optimisation
This one is OPPO-specific and easy to miss. Sleep standby optimisation learns when you sleep and restricts apps during that time to save battery — which is precisely the window an alarm app has to be ready in. Turn it off under Settings → Battery → More settings. If you'd rather keep it, set a test alarm for the middle of the night once and check it rings.

5. Lock it in Recents
Clearing your recent apps — or a Clean up from Phone Manager — can close the alarm app outright. Open Recent apps, tap the menu on your alarm app's card and choose Lock. A locked app survives "clear all".
A silent alarm: the sound file and volume
If the alarm screen comes up but makes no sound, the tone is the first suspect. An alarm set to a song or a downloaded file goes quiet if that file was moved or deleted. Choose a built-in tone, then check the Alarm volume under Sound and vibration — it's separate from the ringtone and media volumes. More causes of a quiet alarm are here.
Beyond Alarm's reliability screen checks battery optimisation, background pausing and the alarm permissions, and opens the right page for auto launch — the OPPO-only switches above are worth doing by hand. On another brand? There are checklists for Samsung, Google Pixel, OnePlus, Xiaomi, vivo and Motorola.
The general ones still apply
Beyond the OPPO and realme settings, check that Do Not Disturb lets alarms through (the three ways it can silence one), that the alarm app has Alarms & reminders permission, and that an overnight restart didn't leave the phone locked.
If you turn on Super power saving mode at night, test with it on — it restricts background apps further still.
Test it tonight
Set an alarm three minutes ahead, clear your recent apps, lock the phone and leave it. If it rings and the screen comes up, the settings held. Re-check auto launch and battery settings after any ColorOS or realme UI update — updates are when settings like these quietly reset.
Common questions
Where is auto launch on an OPPO or realme phone?
Long-press the alarm app → App info → Battery usage, and switch on Allow auto launch. On older ColorOS it sits under Settings → Battery → App battery management, or in the Phone Manager app's privacy permissions.
Is realme UI the same as ColorOS?
Close enough for this. realme UI is built on OPPO's ColorOS, so the battery settings have the same names and mostly the same places. Recent OnePlus phones run a ColorOS base too.
My OPPO alarm rings but makes no sound. Why?
Usually the alarm's tone was a song or downloaded file that has since been moved or deleted, or the Alarm volume is low. Pick a built-in tone and check the Alarm slider under Sound and vibration.
Does Sleep standby optimisation stop alarms?
It can. It restricts what apps do while the phone sits unused at night, which is exactly when an alarm app needs to be ready. Turn it off, or test your alarm with it on before relying on it.
Do I need to do this for OPPO's own Clock app?
Usually not — the built-in Clock is a system app that ColorOS leaves alone. These settings matter for third-party alarm apps.
Beyond Alarm
An alarm that keeps ringing until you’ve actually moved — then blocks the apps that pull you back to bed. Free to start, no account.
