vivo alarm not going off? The Funtouch OS and OriginOS settings that stop it
If your alarm doesn't go off on a vivo phone, the usual cause is that vivo stopped the alarm app in the background. Turn on Autostart for it, allow its background power consumption, set battery optimisation to Not optimised, and lock it in Recents. If it rings silently instead, the alarm's sound file is the likely culprit.
The short version:
- vivo is one of the stricter phone makers about background apps.
- An alarm app you set and never open is exactly what it stops.
- Four separate switches: Autostart, background power, battery optimisation, Recents lock.
- Silent alarm? Switch to a built-in tone and check the Alarm volume.
Why vivo stops alarm apps
dontkillmyapp.com, which rates every phone maker on how aggressively it stops background apps, puts vivo firmly in the "problem" half, and lists several separate mechanisms. That's the trap: each one is a different switch in a different menu, so fixing one doesn't fix the others, and the alarm keeps failing "randomly".
Every setting, and where it is
Menu names vary between Funtouch OS and OriginOS versions — if a path doesn't match, search Settings for the bold word.
| # | Setting | What to set | Where |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | Autostart | On | Settings → More settings → Applications → Autostart |
| 2 | Background power consumption | Allow / unrestricted | Settings → Battery → Background power consumption management |
| 3 | Battery optimisation | Not optimised | Long-press the app → App info → Battery |
| 4 | Lock in Recents | Locked | Recent apps → the app → lock |
| 5 | Alarm sound | A built-in tone | The alarm itself |
On older Funtouch OS (2.6 and earlier), Autostart lived in i Manager → App manager → Autostart manager, and the background setting was called High background power consumption under Settings → Battery.
1. Autostart
Autostart lets an app start itself — after a restart, or after the system has closed it. An alarm app needs this to come back after vivo clears it. Turn it on for your alarm app under Settings → More settings → Applications → Autostart.
2. Background power consumption
On Android 13 and later vivo phones, Background power consumption management under Settings → Battery decides which apps may keep running in the background. Set your alarm app to the unrestricted option. On older phones the same idea is the High background power consumption list — add the app there.

3. Battery optimisation
The standard Android switch, which vivo keeps as well. Long-press the alarm app, open App info → Battery, and set it to Not optimised. It's separate from the two vivo settings above; you need all three.
4. Lock it in Recents
Clearing your recent apps can close the alarm app outright. Open Recent apps, find your alarm app and use its lock option so "clear all" leaves it alone.
Beyond Alarm
Beyond Alarm does this part for you: the alarm will not switch off until you have actually moved, and the apps you pick stay locked afterwards.

5. A silent alarm: the sound file
If the alarm comes up on screen but makes no sound, the tone is the first suspect. An alarm set to a song or a downloaded file goes quiet if that file was moved or deleted. Choose one of the phone's built-in tones, then check the Alarm slider under Sound settings — it's separate from the ringtone. More causes of a quiet alarm are here.
A vivo detail from our own code
vivo is also where we learned something about the power menu. Beyond Alarm's guard closes the power menu while an alarm rings, so you can't simply switch the phone off to escape it. It spots the menu by its system name — and vivo's didn't match any of the names other phones use. It also accepted the polite "Back" command and then ignored it. The fix was to recognise the menu by its words ("Power off", "Restart") and close it firmly. How that guard works, and its one honest limit.
Beyond Alarm's reliability screen checks battery optimisation and auto-start and opens the right page for each — the vivo-specific switches above are worth doing by hand. On another brand? There are checklists for Samsung, Google Pixel, OnePlus, Motorola and Xiaomi, OPPO and realme.
The general ones still apply
Beyond the vivo settings, check that Do Not Disturb lets alarms through (the three ways it can silence one), that the alarm app has Alarms & reminders permission, and that an overnight restart didn't leave the phone locked.
Test it tonight
Set an alarm three minutes ahead, clear your recent apps, lock the phone and leave it. If it rings, the settings held. Re-check Autostart and background power after any system update — updates are when settings like these quietly reset.
Common questions
Where is Autostart on a vivo phone?
On recent Funtouch OS and OriginOS, Settings → More settings → Applications → Autostart. On older Funtouch OS it was in i Manager → App manager → Autostart manager. Turn it on for your alarm app.
My vivo alarm shows on screen but makes no sound. Why?
Most often the alarm's tone was a song or downloaded file that has since been moved or deleted, or the Alarm volume is low. Pick a built-in tone and check the Alarm slider under Sound settings.
Do I need to do this for vivo's own Clock app?
Usually not — the built-in Clock is a system app. These settings matter most for third-party alarm apps, which vivo treats like any other app.
Does locking the app in Recents help on vivo?
It can. vivo lets you lock an app in the Recent apps screen, which stops a "clear all" from closing it. Do it for your alarm app as well as the settings above.
